The pains you refer to are called "phantom pains." Apparently, the pain is very real to the amputee. I've got an 18-year-old daughter just chomping at the bit to get out on her own. She plans to do so right after graduation. I'll feel that pain for sure then.

What can I say? I know that pain only too well. We try to help all we can, and in the end, they know who to come to when they need help the most. I guess that is the most important thing.
