Movies to miss!

I’m not a movie reviewer in any sense of the word but the piece of crap I saw Sunday was so bad I can’t let it go by without telling you what a total waste of time and effort it was. Descriptions on line of “Untraceable”, Diane Lane’s newest movie made it sound as if it might be another take on the cyber drama like “War Games”. As it turned out whatever suspense that might have provided was dispensed with in the first 30 minutes of this 2 hour disaster of a film. OK, it was billed as being an hour and 50 minutes long, It just felt like 2 hours.

If you like gory disgusting perverted death scenes and a predictable plot then this is the film for you. If you feel you absolutely must see it, please, save yourself a few bucks and wait for it to come out on DVD. The wait shouldn’t be very long I think, maybe 20 minutes max.

The highlight of the afternoon was the popcorn. That should tell you something.

Brady Earnhart at Songwriter's Showcase

Hey, all--

I'll be in a round-robin songwriter show this Friday at Picker's Supply--a very friendly listening room venue. The excellent Rebecca Maxon will be backing me up on cello. Hope you can make it. Details below--

best,

Brady

The Fredericksburg Songwriters' Showcase presents Roddy Barnes, Andra Faye, Bob Sima, and Brady Earnhart (with Rebecca Maxon) on Friday, January 25 at 8 p.m. in the Picker's Supply Concert Hall, above 902 Caroline Street, Fredericksburg,VA (enter through the alley round back). Josh Myers will make a special cameo appearance.

Nothing to do with events in town but...

it could have a lot to do with LIFE here. A friend who is a nurse forwarded the following to me. I don't normally post forwards but this seems important to me just in case it happens to one of you.

My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word. I agree.

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks. Seriously..

Please read:

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .....she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die.... they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this...
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally . He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke .

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T * Ask the person to TALK and SPE AK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today)

R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 999/911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other ,that is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

Acoustic Roots Reminder from Stuart Whitford

Just a quick note to encourage you to see the Acoustic Roots show at Libertytown Saturday night. Songwriter and storyteller Ed Snodderly, one of my musical inspirations from back in Tennessee, will be performing along with bassist Brandon Story. Ed produced my first album, Vertical Land, and performed on most of the songs. He was also one of the background actor/musicians in the movie "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou." It should be a wonderful evening of music.

Be well,

I hope you can

make the show,

Stuart

Shoredigger's Cats

Jon & Phil appearing again at Frederick's, my favorite downtown restaurant! Not knocking the rest of the downtown eateries...I just love the seared scallops wrapped in prosciutto with blackened shrimp  and the cracked crab soup that Fritz and his staff serve. Good dinner rolls too.
