Suspicious package found downtown!!

I just got back from my morning bank and post office run after finding the streets that lead to the main post office and my bank closed. A city worker on the scene told me that the main post office building is closed. According to the Free Lance-Star a suspicious package was found in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court building and is being checked by state police bomb technicians. Check out this Free Lance-Star page.  Downtown Closures

Just thought you ought to know.

And this update from the Free Lance Star at the same link as I used above:

UPDATE: A robot was deployed to evaluate the suspicious device, according to police. The suspicious device was then "disrupted."

Investigation revealed that the device was a slide projector and did not contain any explosives or harmful substances.

The court building and surrounding area was re-opened at approximately 11:20 a.m.

I told you they were good...

and it appears that Frederick's downtown has realized they are so good they can't do without them this Friday night!!!! That's right music fans....Jon Bachman and Phil Makely will be appearing at Frederick's Friday night afterall. Sounds good to me...fine food and great music.

Jon Bachman & Phil Makely

Jon and Phil will be at Frederick's on each Friday in September but will be off this coming Friday, the 31st.

Jon-Boy & Philly at Frederick's

Jon Bachman and Phil Makely are now the regular
Friday night featured performers at
Frederick’s Restaurant
1105 Princess Anne Street.
Stop in some Friday soon and enjoy a fine meal and some outstanding
acoustic music. They play and sing from 7 to 9.  You’ll be glad you did, especially
if you order my personal favorite, the crab soup as an appetizer.
It’s all non-smoking as well so you can breathe free.

Carol Resch’s Art in Colonial Beach

Please stop in and see my art on display and sale at the Fisheries building until Sept. 17,
a water/lights series of impressionistic colors on full size watercolor papers and brush painted in watercolor.
There are two full size and 4 half sheets of fine watercolor papers,
from 24" ax 30" to 32" x 40" in pure watercolor now offered at $475
for the two larger, each, and $245 for the smaller 4, each, in the series of 6 paintings,
archivally framed in pleasing frames suitable for office or home decor.
The durable professional watercolor paints and archive watercolor papers will last well beyond our generation,
and you can safely pass these down to your family, for the colors and papers will last permanently.
There will be no more planned watercolors in the genre from the artist on this style;
however brilliant reproductions are available in print size, up to size 13" X 19" and note cards.

.  Don't miss this exhibit. I've never seen a collection together shown like this one.

Also in this exhibit are my two butterfly and Sunflowers 1,
original watercolors ;
along with my favorites
Foxfire and River Creatures in bold deep Indigo and Prussian Green colors,
original pastels that I so dearly love, scenery of the river and marshes.

Any kind of purchase plan can be arranged with a 10% discount offered on the night of the open house.

Sept 14 during the Art Walk on Colonial Beach from 6-8 pm.

Laurie & Peter

Hi everybody,

The Griffin Bookstore

WI-Fi on Fredericksburg's Front Porch

That's right folks! Hyperion has installed free WI-FI for the Internet and it's a quick and easy connect.  I used it yesterday afternoon to do some web work and all went absolutely smoothly. Thanks to Dan and Anna for this cool addition to the place where so many of us hang out and meet with friends. We'll just hope now that it is not abused by too many people just camping out there just to get on line and graze the fields of the Internet.

Total Eclipse of the Moon

Don’t forget that this is tomorrow morning and should be visible from here in Fredericksburg
if the cloud cover doesn’t obscure it. It is the second astronomical event this month
and should be a lot easier to see than the Perseid Meteor showers a couple of weeks
ago.

I wonder which of our intrepid coffee providers here will seize this opportunity for
an extra-early morning coffee special.
